Winnipeg: Doing Up the U of M in Formal Style
I went to my buddie Dan's University of Manitoba faculty graduation formal. It was held in the banquet hall just behind Winnipeg's most luxurious and historic establishment -- the famous railway hotel, the Fort Garry.
As described on their homepage www.fortgarryhotel.com --
"The Fort Garry Hotel is situated in the heart of downtown Winnipeg and is just minutes away from all major attractions. This historic Winnipeg hotel icon has set the standard for grandeur, elegance and fine cuisine unmatched anywhere in the city. The Fort Garry Hotel is the premier choice of knowledgeable travelers."
The walls are lined with ornate decor and giant paintings. The multitude of chandeliers were almost hidden by all the helium balloons that had been set up. The classy dinner was sponsored by a local sex shop. I showed up just in time for the free red and white wine, cheesecake, cute university girls and ensuing dance party. What more could you want?
At the end of the night I almost got the living shit kicked out of me by an irrational farm boy. Jealousy is a powerful thing. You've gotta watch out for those 'tobin boys. It would mess with your head too if you had to stick your hand up inside a cow, if you know what I mean, to help them make babies or give birth and all that -- something that's commonplace around here. Seriously.
